Though Utah is considered the second-driest state in the United States, the state still has a wealth of lakes and reservoirs to provide people with a great time. For those looking for somewhere to relax this coming summer, the Beehive State can provide a more accessible alternative. Here are some great activities that you can do and enjoy in Utah:
Fishing
The most relaxing activity that you can enjoy out on the water is fishing. Utah is full of lakes and rivers that would allow anyone to get a good catch. Whether you want to stay on the river banks or have your boat to go to the deeper places, Utah has it all. For those who want to catch some trout, there is the Green River. It allows for fishing in three accessible areas and you can choose whether to get brown or rainbow trout.
Those who want to fish in deeper waters can have their pick of lakes and reservoirs. For example, Pineview Reservoir allows prospective anglers to catch sport fish, perch, catfish, and bass.
Scuba Diving
Thanks to the depths of the state’s lakes and reservoirs, people can do some scuba diving in Utah. The Great Salt Lake might not be the ideal place for it, but there are other places. You can go to Bear Lake, Flaming Gorge, and other places to learn how to dive in a safer environment than the open sea. The best place in Utah for diving instruction and to see underwater sights is the Bonneville Seabase, which is near Salt Lake City.\
Water Skiing
When you are speeding across the water at high speeds, you want to have a large space to go zooming around. Fortunately, the state has many reservoirs for you to enjoy. When you are bringing your boat and skis, you can enjoy them at the Jordanelle Reservoir and the Deercreek Reservoir. Both of them are close to Salt Lake City so you won’t have to go for. For those who plan on renting, there are jet ski rentals in Pineview Reservoir and the large Utah Lake.
Sailing
Another activity you might want to try out is sailing. It can be intimidating to learn sailing out in the open sea. But a lake can be much more forgiving. The state has several large reservoirs with sailing schools offering courses for potential sailors. Additionally, there is nothing like watching the sunset on the Great Salt Lake from a boat you are navigating.
For those who already know how to boat and sail, Lake Powell and the Flaming Gorge reservoirs can provide you with an excellent weekend of relaxation. Both have nice secluded coves that make them ideal for a short getaway.
If you can’t get out to the coast, Utah provides several great locations that will help you cool off. Whether it is a relaxing fishing trip or an exciting jet ski race, the state has many things to offer to those who want to have some fun on the water. Plan some of those activities now so you can have something to look forward to during the hot summer days.
