There are many different issues which can affect the aesthetics of the teeth. Braces Windsor can be used to help correct cosmetic issues such as crooked teeth, protruding teeth or overcrowding of the mouth. Although cosmetic problems, these issues can inhibit the effectiveness of brushing resulting in further dental issues. Braces are also used to reduce problems involving the bite of the teeth, such as overbite, underbite and crossbite, ensuring that the teeth meet evenly to help resolve these problems. Braces also help reduce the chance of damage to protruding teeth. Good oral hygiene is essential to allow efficient aesthetic improvement, and in combination with good oral hygiene, braces can help reduce future dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease.

A full examination of the mouth is required to assess the eligibility for braces and the current position of the teeth is recorded using X-rays and other digital scans. The dentist can then decide which type of braces may be most suitable for the individual’s needs or provide a couple of options to cater to personal preference. Next 3-dimensional scans of the mouth are then carried out to help create an image to envision how the teeth may change following the treatment.

Different types of braces

There are several different types of dental braces available which are used to improve the aesthetics of the teeth. These include conventional metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces and invisible braces.

Conventional braces consist of brackets and wires made out of metal which attach to the teeth and are the most commonly used orthodontic treatment. It is a slow but very effective method and is widely used among teenagers. However they are the most noticeable type of braces and have been found to affect the way people feel about their smile during the treatment, which can take many months or years to achieve the desired result.

Lingual braces are also metal braces however they are attached to the inside of the teeth so they are invisible from the outside, which make them an attractive alternative for those who are worried about how they look. Although they are more discreet, in comparison to conventional braces, these may take longer to achieve the desired result.
